We know that chasing your dreams can be hard. That’s why we’re giving away scholarships towards two students who are chasing their dreams twice a year. The first place winner will receive a $1,500 award, the second place winner will receive a $1,000 award and the third place winner will receive a Picture Keeper Connect!

Background on the Picture Keeper Scholarship

Students from across the country were asked to submit an essay about what they are doing to follow their dreams, along with a picture to go along with it using #PictureKeeper on Instagram and/or Twitter. They also needed to be a high school graduate (or equivalent) with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and enrolled into a college program. We received many wonderful submissions, but after careful consideration, we narrowed it down to three winners!

We are excited to share with you, Dane C, our first place scholarship winner of $1,500 to use towards his education at the University of Chicago Law School.

From a young age, Dane loved to dress up as “The Great Dane”, a cross between Zorro, Batman, and the power rangers, and pretend to fight crime with each slash of his plastic sword. But as he got older, and saw his grandparents each die of preventable conditions and diseases, he knew something had to be done, and not even his crime fighting powers could stop it. “My family works in healthcare, but from an early age I knew that I didn’t want to be a healthcare provider myself,” says Dane. So while in college at Brigham Young University, he decided to follow his entrepreneurial spirit by studying management, as well as microbiology and philosophy to round out his studies and receive a background in biotechnology. Since graduating college, Dane has been accepted to the University of Chicago Law School to follow his passion of studying law to reform and protect health care policy. By being awarded this scholarship, Dane has the opportunity to lessen the expense burden of a post-graduate education.

Although being a “‘lawyer” is not so glamorous a job as “superhero,” at least he won’t have to do as many somersaults and roundhouse kicks—or wear tights! Dane and his wife look forward to their move to Chicago to take in the sights and experiences of the city, as well as get started on his studies. We can’t wait to see where Dane’s work takes him in the future!
