For this week’s #MyFavoritePhoto story, we interviewed Jordan Brumbach, a father of two, and got a glimpse into his journey of being a dad. Join us as we celebrate the spirit of fatherhood and the joy’s that come with being a parent!
1. When and where was the above photo taken?
“Mother’s Day, 2016 at the Marietta Country Club golf course”
2. What memories does it bring back to you?
“I’ve always enjoyed going to eat brunch with my family- especially on holidays. The morning was beautiful with wonderful weather. Everyone was happy and we exchanged gifts with all the mothers in our family. There were four generations at brunch that day which was very cool. Afterwards we went out to the golf course to take pictures because it was such a beautiful day outside. I remember helping my son learn how to walk that day when this photos was taken, and the joy on his face is something I will hold with me for the rest of my life.”
3. What is your favorite thing about being a dad?
“Every morning when I go to wake up my kids, whether it’s during the week when I’m getting them ready for daycare, or on the weekends when I bring them down for breakfast, the smiles on their faces when they see me coming to get them is indescribable. My son can’t talk yet, but my 2-year-old daughter yells “Dada!” when she sees me. It’s perfect. My son smiles, just like in this picture, and starts to laugh with excitement. It’s seriously the best part of my day.”
4. Is being a parent what you expected?
“Nothing in this world could have prepared me for being a parent. It’s a tough job, especially when you have two in diapers. However, with as much difficulty there is with raising children there is an equal amount of joy. I’m looking forward to being able to take my daughter to the movies and to school dances, and I’m looking forward to teaching my son how to throw a baseball and how to drive a stick shift when they’re older. But for now, I’m so thankful I get to have moments like this- teaching my son how to walk, showing my daughter how to put her shoes on, and giving them fun soapy hair-doos in the bath. It truly is bittersweet as my kids get older. I get to be involved as they are introduced to new experiences, but I realize that I will never get to go back and have those moments again when I make my daughter laugh as we get ready for school in the morning, or when I teach my son how to walk. That is why I am thankful to have photos like these to help me remember these times.”
5. What is your idea of a good Father’s Day gift?
“I personally like it when I get to just spend time with the family and relax. No gifts are needed. Our lives are hectic enough that we rarely get to see everyone at one time, so having a day where we all get together and eat and have fun is a perfect gift for me. (Yard tools are cool too).” – yes Jordan, we agree! 🙂
6. Why is this your favorite photo?
“I won’t be able to ever experience a day and situation like this again. This was such an important time in my son’s life and for me to be able to be a part of it is irreplaceable to me. Also, the happiness he is experiencing is something I always want to be able to remember. This is how I always want to be able to remember him.”
7. How would you feel if you lost these photos?
“I don’t like to think about it. I’d probably have to learn how to paint or draw so I could recreate them from memory!”
