DIY Recycled Herb Gardens

Earth Day is a great reminder that we can always be kinder to our envrionment! Whether that’s recycling, choosing re-useable water bottles, or finding more energy efficient efforts, there are many ways to give back to the earth, and it doesn’t all have to be boring either! This fun, DIY Recycled Herb Garden is the perfect craft that you can do as a family, and get the enjoyment of using something you planted yourself.

You will need:

  • Recycled soda can
  • Can opener
  • Spray paint (optional)
  • Contact paper or other sticky label
  • Soil
  • Herb seeds of choice
  • Water

Let’s Get Started:

Empty out recycled can. You may want to rinse with water prior to beginning. Use the can opener along the top edge of the can to remove the tab section of the can. Be careful not to cut yourself!

You have the option to spray paint the can, or leave it as is depending on your decorative tastes! If you spray paint it, be sure to do it in a well ventilated area, and put down a piece of recycled newspaper so you don’t damage the area around it, (plus, you’re recycling again. Way to double up on saving the planet!)

If you’ve painted your can, wait a few hours for it to dry. Once dry, place soil, and seeds in the can. Water the seeds and set in a sunny place. Depending on what you planted you should have fresh herbs in a few days/weeks!

Enjoy both the aroma and flavor that fresh herbs provide to your home, and don’t forget to take a picture of your finished product and back it up using Picture Keeper.
