Technology is changing and we’re staying on top of it! Companies are slowly converting to only support the USB Type-C and many people don’t know what that means. We want to clear up the confusion and give you confidence that Picture Keeper supports the change.
We interviewed our tech guy, Greg, and here is what he had to say about the USB Type-C:
What is the Type C USB? The USB Type-C is the newest port for charging and connecting cell phones, laptops and tablets.
Why are companies changing their ports to support the USB Type-C? So that there can be one universal standard. The original USB connecter was universal across both Windows & Mac. It will eliminate the need for multiple different types of cords and allow all devices to function off of one cord.
Why is it important that we support the USB Type-C? Because apple has moved to Type C on their laptops, most new Android phones are Type C and some android tablets and Windows tablets are already Type C. Ultimately, within a few years, everything NEW will be Type C.
Who will be affected by this change? People with a new android device and people with a new Apple computer.
Because of this change, Picture Keeper now offers a connecter for anybody’s device that supports the Type C USB. You can add it to your cart during your checkout on www.picturekeeper.com or you can purchase it HERE.
If you’re not sure what port your devices requires, here is a list of all the devices using the USB Type-C:
If you think you already have a converter for your smartphone, make sure it’s not Micro USB —-> USB C. This is not the type of converter you need to connect a Picture Keeper Connect to your smartphone. This type of converter is for connecting your new device to an old charging cable. You would still need to purchase a separate Picture Keeper USB Type-C Converter through our website. Here is what a Micro USB adaptor looks like:
